OCO High School Concerto
Scholarship Competition
Each year the OCO offers a talented high school instrumentalist a $300 cash scholarship and a live performance with the orchestra on our Spring Concert.

Applicants must be in grades 9 through 12 and play an orchestra or band instrument or piano.

Must be a resident of Olathe, OR attend an Olathe, DeSoto, Gardner, or Spring Hill School district high school, OR study with a private teacher in Olathe, OR be a full-time member of the OCO, OR be a full-time member of the Olathe Senior Youth Symphony,

Must not have won an OCO Scholarship previously.

One movement of a standard concerto, or equivalent, approximately 5 to 10 minutes in duration.

Must be approved by the OCO Music Director.

An orchestral accompaniment must be available.

Memorization is not required, but will be considered an asset in the audition.

Applicant must provide their own accompanist.

Applicant must provide a copy of the music for the judges.

Judges will provide written critiques for each person that auditions.

Persons that audition will be notified of their status as soon as possible following the competition.

$300 to the winning applicant, to be presented immediately following the designated performance. The winner must perform the auditioned piece with the orchestra in order to receive the award. The OCO may also choose an alternate soloist.

The OCO reserves the right to choose no soloist.

The winner will perform the work in concert with the Olathe Community Orchestra at 3:00 pm on Sunday May 4, 2025. The winner must be available for rehearsal dates: 7:00 pm Thursdays, April 10 and 24, and May 1, 2025.
